Money does not make you rich in this life.....but friends, family and faithful spouses do just that.
So, Marsha and I agreed yesterday that we are most RICH!!

How can I tell you how much Gary and I want God to bless your life....half as much as we have been blessed....beyond measure!!....... Keep the Republic Going...reminder to plan to vote on Tuesday!!! Quilted Love, everyday and in everyway!! Kari

Treasured Friends....TFF....Forever!

The day was perfect, sunny and bright. The last of the colors of fall in Conn. So much to share!
So, many travels to explore together....both of us love to travel and anticipate the journeys!!

How wonderful our God is!! Giving us treasured friends forever!!...Taking up where we left off 27 years ago...Laughing, talking, sharing..... The loss of Kelly and her little baby was sad and they are still missed....I know no parent ever gets over that loss, our heart goes out to our precious friends. They have a fine son Troy in Conn with a wonderful family. Marsha and Floyd are making plans to retire in Texas but with all their talents we are sure they will only be semi-retired! Floyd is an accomplished artist and Marsha finished a BA in Interior Design recently.
So, we have a route planned to the state of Texas to see old friends, for sure! They were so important in our young days as new Christians. Our kids played together and happy memories there. Facebook, if nothing else, is bringing old friends back together!! We enjoyed going to a Farm Estate built by one of our countries first recognized female Architect. The family was gracious to make remarks in their will to leave the estate just as Theodosious Porter left it when she passed in 1946. Now, priceless Artwork, pottery over 2000 years old, Books, all the furniture from her time, etc. It was an awesome day from start at their favorite Breakfast, Lunch Corner Spot, to ending it at their sons' home for desert and pictures. Hard to say goodbye, but we all hope we don't let 27 years pass again without fellowship together!....Awesome and so blessed!! Our hearts are blessed!! Kari

Kiss Me Kiss Me

You know the song don't You...I love it! I got it today for My Gary, cause I am just loving Gary here! We laughed because it is a handy card now for us...we don't sign them...I just buy them, laugh and give it to him...he reads it...then I put it in a conspicuous place so he can "find" it and give it to me...later.....! You do what you gotta do gals!! It works for us...and makes us laugh!!

Favorite places in Brattleboro...some favorite homes I love the colors of!! Such a quaint town....but we are not of these there parts let's say!...Did you know 84% of New Hampshire is trees and the other portion is under water?....Really, that is what they have on posters..hehee
Humor me family! We WIll come home.....someday!! Quilted Hugs!! Kari

Joy Comes In The Morning.... We Can See!!!

The River Never Lets me down! Everytime we cross over the Conn River it has a different look to it. The light or shadows change and then the color!! My camera just can not capture the deep colors along that River! I thank the Lord for our many travels!! So awesome is our land!!!
We hope we inspire some to take those trips they have "always meant to take"!!
Travel if you can..... in the Fall!! href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgU7VNrmorSoBzX5PASqp9_vM6C20GumQy7nP4f7FFGIOHJDPtVaPNKLZ31XQwZnVNDepRTy-uBmlDPToHkRiYm2pCoEOm6barYYP_S3voIjHO6zLllo8yxWMs89aHQlE6hxuZuLxOc85bO/s1600/DSCN5613.JPG">We are moving to the north of Brattleboro in a couple days. The RV camps have state requirements and most close by the end of October. We found a rather nice KOA that is open all winter. That does not mean we are staying for December. We have had fun and we are seeing tons of things but we are getting ready to head back to the mid-west.
We would like to find Grandma Moses Museum of paintings, Dear Janes Quilt in Bennington, then Boston and all the places of history that we can fit in there....and the list goes on!!

Brattleboro is a very pretty village. They believe in no growth. There are no new builds here since in the 60's. People walk or ride their bikes everywhere. They even encourage you to turn off your engine at certain intersections to help the environment. The little lady and older man are at the post office regularly with their Make Love Not War sign!! a Big Red Heart!! So, we are in the land of nod at times, it does seem. But it is nice. We all have views! And Vermonts' Green Mountains are the best. The A.T. goes directly through the Green Mountains; that must be a very steep climb at times!!
I can see clearly now the rain is gone!!!..... So much to see and do! ! Gary is relaxing tonite after working all last night. We just snuck in the trip to Hogback today....came home and heated up Broccoli Soup from last night. The wind and rain are coming. We see our precious friends after 27 years on Thursday in Conn and then we move our RV in a few too. So, we will see you in a few!!! Love to you all! and Sweet Dreams!! Quilted Love, kari

Signs

Doesn't it feel like life does give us detours at times? Right now I think all of Brattleboro is a detour!! Construction teams have been busy here since we came in late August. They do have jobs.
Isn't the cabin on the edge of the mountain just amazing? Was the guy that built the cabin with the view from his front porch on a detour?...Was he exhausted from searching for "just the right place to build" and said THIS IS IT Kathrine!!!....
How far was the water for them to carry?.....Those are things I think about! I see Plenty of firewood!! but since I am a rambling rose today ... you make up the rest of the story!!!
I had never pictured a picnic with a view like the one from the deck of this small gift shop area. It is offering a 2 gallon jug of Maple Syrup for $60 ! Yikes!!! 58gm of sugar! whooooosh!
We enjoyed the view....one signs brags that the view is 15 miles out; I bet on a clear day! Gary bought me a Vermont Sweatshirt in bright fuchsia pink...he said it just "lit up my face!"...at 60 that is nice to hear that my face still has an ability to shine! heehee
It was a nice short drive, full of color everywhere. The maples are about done...still some with their last bit of orange, red or yellow. The oaks are in their glory now with the dark green pine mixed in... It is spectacular!! God in His splendor! We LOVE Fall!!! And in this life journey, we may feel we get detours but God is Sovereign in all and through all....No Detours Allowed!...
Just go out on your porch.....breathe in really really deep.....love that fall smell!! Awesome!! Quilted Hug!!! Kari

Food For The Soul

The Flick Family has been known to make a meal out of OLIVES....and Broccoli Soup is right up there on the list too! We started the day listening to Chip Ingram in his study at livingontheedge.org on the Attributes of God...it is an Awesome study and true mana that we need each day. I did go to Walmart and did you know that even in a small Walmart (they are building the Big Super one up the road)...you can exist foodwise?...Yep, I am doing it...it is close and they have a frozen food and dairy area. So, I began to scour the shelves and came up with my ingredients for Broccoli Soup...It was time for Comfort food. i came home, emptied out the 6 bags I had purchased....found my soup pan, and began to mix the ingredients. When I turned and asked my Gary what kind of sandwich he wanted with the soup, he asked, did you make soup?....wow!.... haha! he was sitting 5 feet away on the couch relaxing before getting ready for his night shift at the local ER.
Our trip to Norman Rockwell's Museum as all sorts of scenery, Rivers, Covered Bridges, Mountains, small towns that are centered around the Gazebos that sport music in the summer in most of them.....it is a rich New England life that I encourage all to come and enjoy.
Since this was the museum of illustrations, it started with N.Rockwell's first issue of Boys Life 5 cents each .... it covered all the decades of artwork he did for several magazines and also business advertisements. They had it all organized and typed out explanations of his work with an old recorded explanation occasionally throughout the displays. It was very humble for the kind of artist he was. So gifted at a Young age. He was born the year that my Grandfather (Poppy) was born. We enjoyed the 1940's displayed with the Soldier helping the little girl. It was just awesome. In the 60's you could see his art loose the family, familiar touch that he put into the other years of work. It was mostly just faces of important people. The death of President Kennedy and other historical moments caught by him. We did buy postcards to send to all the Grandys also; that was fun picking them out also.
Sewing is a part of my life here, as nursing ER is for Gary right now. I am trying to build up a stack of quilt tops to then quilt with my longarm when we get back to Indiana and finally settled down for awhile, probably mid-December.
Please just enjoy the trip with us. I would serve you some soup if you were close enough to visit!! God Bless!! Mama Bear loving Papa Bear here

Nostalgia

We have enjoyed traveling in Vermontand now we even get to see some of the Northern Mountains entertain snow. I am sure this is artificial but it was cold enough to start setting the scene for the many ski lodges in the area. Kayaking in the summer, hiking anytime of the year and skiing in the winter; with the constant bicycles traveling on their own designated lanes in town. Outdoor enthusiast with free spirits mix everyday!
I took My Gary to Panera Bread last week and we enjoyed some hot soup and a mix of sandwiches. A little old couple sat nearby and I made a story up about their lives; he looked like a retired professor and she must have spent her life in a library! Have you ever tried to figure out some other persons' journey just by watching them? Is that called people watching....?
Covered Bridges abound here, we even went across one last week. So Cool!!!
Our trip to the Norman Rockwell Museum was a great day. The drive anywhere here is always just gorgeous and we usually find some great place to eat. N. Rockwell was a humble man. He spent most of his life in Vermont near where this particular museum was located. His oil paintings are in Arlington ,Vermont. He relocated to Mass in the early 50's when his 2nd wife became ill and needed the medical help he found her there. His art work is so unique. He was never called an "artist" but an illustrator. Whatever he was called I call it wonderful work!!
We went through the many magazine covers that were original and decided on one that is from 1949...the year we were born....of a young girl and a young boy getting ready for their date in their own bedrooms in front of their mirrors! I so thought that was for us since we are celebrating our 40th all this year and we dated all through high school!....... the red caboose is highlighted on this page of our journey because we voted today. Years ago my Grandpa...Poppy...would take the ballot box to the County Seat in Hancock County, Findlay, Ohio by way of the B&O RR....he would stay a couple days while there. He would take the ballots to the court house, get a room at the Findlay Inn, talk with the Civil and Spanish American War Soldiers that lingered around the Court House; take some out to eat...then decide on what new lambs he wanted to add to his flock and then get back on the B&O and return to the Williamstown area just around 15 miles. Oh, what a life!! So family friendly wouldn't you agree?! Quilted Love As Always!! Kari

Dysfunction Junction!!

Brattleboro...named for a man named Brattle.... We have the weirdest intersection in Brattleboro, Vt. It would be hard to get a photo unless I actually got out of the car! Those that know how GW travels are laughing right now!..You all enjoy my pictures from the moving vehicle!..Anyways, there are 3 roads that intersect there, with a drive out near the railroad which you cross just after coming over the Connecticut River from New Hampshire, (the only bridge to cross in the area)...and then there is a public parking drive that also enters into the constant confusion. The Marlboro College also sits up on a hill to add even more interest. So, no stop light. NOPE!!...just ONE stop sign...for those coming from New Hampshire over the bridge. It is a FREE FOR ALL!!!!.....and then add the construction that is going on...I am sure it is part of the "stimulus"..just kidding. Gary has to cross this intersection every time he goes to work or every time we go into Brattleboro. So, we found out it is called DYSFUNCTION JUNCTION!!!. NO, I am NOT kidding!! LOL!!!
So, how many areas of our lives can we see this dysfunction junction.....wow!
Time spent walking has increased while we have stayed in Vermont. We plan a hike on a gorge around 1 hour north....on our way to see Norman Rockwell's Museum. He was born in NYC and was a artist for Saturday Evening Post by the time he was 22 years old. They knew talent!!!
I think this weekend was just a few days of "why don't we just relax?"...we could not decide what to do, so we just talked and tried to get our "plan of attack" set in our hearts and minds for December, when we get back to our cabin. We are enjoying traveling here, but you know as well as we do that there really is NO PLACE LIKE HOME!!!!!..... My Gary has truly stolen my heart, though, forever! and I will "follow him all the days of my life".....and evenings.....and afternoons too!!!......Thanks for visiting......Yawn!!.....Time for slumber!! Love, Kari

Just Sharing

We are ordinary people doing ordinary things!
We love our God and are grateful to Him for all things. We love our family more than life. They make us so proud.
We are enjoying our stay in Vermont. The scenery is spectacular all the time. Everywhere you turn, there is a portrait of Gods' Love.. the trappings of our Countries journey is everywhere here.
These are just some of the things we see...and also a few pictures of our day on the train.....the OLD train...the Maine Boston Run....1892...

Thanks for stopping by! Tomorrow it is to rain...and rain here is torrents of rain, so we will be in, My Gary will relax and I will work on my Amish Quilt. We may be Ordinary...but we do serve a very Extraordinary God and Father.....May you have peace and safety today! Quilted Love, Kari

What can you say!!!........!

After being married almost 41 years now I am amazed how much fun Gary and I still have together... his hearts beats and my blood flows in my arteries due to him!! Now, that is LOVE!!!
The telephone posts that ran along the way were from the time when we had telegraph systems to get word to our loved ones. Now, look at us!!
I am not sure if we like finding old churches or barns... love them both....they are both old here!...most barns are connected to the houses in a long affair of buildings...probably due to the harsh winters. Amazing!
a The other day we found a great store called The Vermont Country Store..I was able to get my main man a new baseball hat..Vermont! of course!..... Anyways, we are having fun and ....
Pictures do say it all! Kari

All Aboard!!

Our day on the train started out as a gorgeous one! The temperature was around 70 and the sun was brightly shining.
We drove north around 60 miles and rounded the corner in White River Junction to catch our ride on the Green Mountain Railroad. Gary, being part engineer and inventor at heart, looked the wheel system over quite well and said he "sure would love to be able to take a look at that engine"...!!...My Gary amazes me and I just love this Man!!
We were both in a crazy mood. So, we kept posing for pictures for each other and just relaxing and having fun as the train wound around hills and mountains along the Connecticut River.
The conductor blew the whistle as he approached small burgs along the way. Some of the homes were only reached by boat, to their docks. Now, that would be different! The homes must be warm weather ones, as the River I am sure freezes over in the winter. Oh, how beautiful that would be!! but, the train only runs from May to the end of October.
The train was a part of the Boston Maine Run. In the next post I may just post pictures of the old train that was put on the rail system 2 years before my Grandfather (Poppy) was born...the steam car that ran behind the engine even had a huge wooden beam type frame that held the gigantic, heavy wheels. Our forefathers were so amazing.
The area is just full of portrait photgraphy and this novice keeps finding more pictures that must be taken. For, we will probably never pass this way again, atleast working here in nursing and relaxing and exploring the beauty and the history of our American Roots. The wealth of history here eaks out of the buildings and countryside and speaks out to me to "write! write".... some old barns are huge ones that I imagine was part of the story I read to my kids as youngsters in The Farmer Boy....and some look like they won't be standing either in another 50 years... So, we ponder and we enjoy and we count our blessings to be an American!! Enjoy the ride.....we sure did.... and just take a peak at the next post....not so much writing as just looking!!! Quilted Hugs! Kari please excuse any problem I have with rotating the pictures...heehee I am still a bit "challenged"! God Bless you for making the visit!
